One of the most uniquely LDS beliefs I know of is that there once existed groups of secret conspirators who were motivated by gaining wealth and power at all costs, and who did so by supplanting their own people into positions of power. Then, like a parasite living in its host, their agendas are accomplished using the laws and governing structures already established by the people. These conspirators, known once as Gadianton Robbers, were so effective in their craft that their efforts eventually proved the downfall of two civilizations.
Book of Mormon authors further made it clear that a similar downfall of society would occur in our time if we weren’t careful to keep it out of our midst (Mormon 8 is key). Indeed, this message is so central in the Book of Mormon, it wouldn’t be a stretch to say secret societies and the damage they can bring to society is a core pillar of Mormonism, or was at least intended to be so by the writers of its foundational book, the Book of Mormon. Whether that belief is held by current leaders of the Mormon faith or not, is a cause for sincere question.
When a belief of the LDS church is considered to be of importance, the bi-annual General Conference is the mechanism for creating general awareness and touting those beliefs. Using the search tool on the LDS Church’s official website (which I should point out is curiously not always very consistent), I learned that the phrase “Gadianton” has been used in an LDS General Conference 7 times since 1975. That’s an average of once every nearly seven years.
In October of 2001, only one month following the 911 terrorist events, Gordon B. Hinckley likened them to the ancient activities of Gadianton Robbers. My concern from his remarks over 20 years ago is that members generally began limiting the perpetrators of secret combinations to Islamic extremists wielding bombs, while ruling out corporate men in shirts and ties wielding the subtle ideological bombs of whitewashed deception. As more research and data concerning the true perpetrators of the 911 events comes forward, it is becoming increasingly clear that such a feit must have been accomplished by insiders rather than the accused. Was Osama Bin Laden a scapegoat for white collared criminals in high places?
The last time the phrase “Secret Combination” occurred in a General Conference was in October of 2017, when Russel M. Nelson mentioned the phrase only as a principle taught in the Book of Mormon that was previously unknown. But in his talk, he did not make the effort to describe how secret combinations are any kind of real threat in our day, nor has he taken that opportunity since, as far as keyword searches go.
Prior to that talk, I only discovered three talks that used this phrase in a voice of warning, which sources were all curiously by the same person over the course of sixteen years. I suspect there are more talks using this phrase but search algorithms limit those results. In his 1988 October conference address, Ezra Taft Benson said:
I testify that wickedness is rapidly expanding in every segment of our society. (See D&C 1:14–16; D&C 84:49–53.) It is more highly organized, more cleverly disguised, and more powerfully promoted than ever before. Secret combinations lusting for power, gain, and glory are flourishing. A secret combination that seeks to overthrow the freedom of all lands, nations, and countries is increasing its evil influence and control over America and the entire world. (See Ether 8:18–25.)
Coming from one closely associated with the US government, I suppose most LDS members took President Benson’s warning to suggest such conspiracies were only found among a few greedy men and women in government positions. I’m afraid the possibility of those combinations coming from religious leaders of all faiths, and especially the LDS Church, may have been completely unfathomed by members in this statement.
Shortly after this talk, President Benson’s health began to rapidly decline from the effects of blood clots in the brain, dementia, strokes, and heart attacks (Wikipedia article). Curiously, one of his last public appearances was given in 1989, one year after the cited talk from above, before he became largely incapable of speaking publicly for the remaining five years of his life.
Hardly a reference to secret combinations, Gadianton Robbers, or the likeness of those topics have been given since. That makes 30 years of barely a trace of discussion on the last and certainly most heartfelt sermons of the Book of Mormon – that of the pollution of “the holy church of God.” We should note that Moroni’s accusation does not appear to be against government leaders. It wasn’t against foreigners who committed acts of terror. It was against the polluted state of the church in our day. More specifically, it resembles Ezekiel’s prophesy of wicked metaphorical shepherds who fail to feed their flocks, but rather feed themselves in the last days (Ezekiel 34).
Much more could be said of the rather sudden end of the discussion of secret combinations in the LDS church 20-30 years ago. I offer these simple thoughts here to spark questions, along with my opinion which follows for those who are interested in one explanation.

While I don’t consider myself an expert in anything, and certainly in matters of religion or politics, my opinion comes through years of research and seeking answers to many questions of my own concerning the governance and actions of and by leaders of the LDS church. I believe the reason there has been no discussion of secret combinations in our society by leaders of the LDS church, is because the LDS church is not only infiltrated by Robbers, but is actually led by members of these secret societies, some of which have put on a piety show that rivals the best actors in Hollywood.
I believe that most of the general authorities of the LDS church, and many high ranking leaders of the Catholic Church, are in alignment with the United Nations, and its agenda to reduce the global population (see this article), which I believe to be the great pit Nephi spoke of (see 1 Nephi 14:3). I beleive many of them know they are intentionally misleading, and many of them are good natured, but are simply following and pushing a narrative given to them by their superiors.
This satanic agenda openly promotes a one world order including a one-world religion which was formally established along with its man-made 10 Commandments in November of 2022 (see this article). This public event was attended by some of the highest ranking general authorities of the LDS church. I believe these actions are intended to usher in the prophesied antichrist spoken of by John the Revelator (see 1 John 2:18, 2:22, 4:3, and 2 John 7).
I believe these hidden leaders of the LDS church, and other Christian Faiths, intentionally include beside their secret oath-affiliated brothers within their ranks, honest non-initiated leaders who are completely unaware of these secret activities, in order to better maintain their secret identities and agendas. We can all think of statements made by many of these seemingly sincere leaders who have touched our hearts, which demonstrates my point. Those heart stirrings are necessary to keep the people tagging along.
My sincerest hope is that members of all religions, but especially the LDS faith, can begin applying the old adage Wolves in sheep’s clothing in the way it was always biblically intended as noted in passages like Ezekiel 34, Isaiah 10, and Jeremiah 28, to name just a few of the many scriptural references. This metaphor is not meant to be applied to the governed sinners or sheep like you and me, nor was it directed at the terrorists in other countries, but rather the shepherds who periodically and blasphemously govern in their wool suits from public podiums and pulpits. Wolves who maintain for the greater part, sordid and secret lives in their publicly paid for and fully tithed secret dens of iniquity.

Further actions I invite you to take without hesitation
- Remove your membership from any organized religion. Your number counts to them.
- Refrain from paying any organized institution a regular tithe or donation. Rather, be generous to the orphans, widows, and the destitute with whom you are personally acquainted. I promise God will recognize your donation even though it isn’t toward an institution.
- Recognize the Lord’s church as a condition of heart rather than an institution, and all who are pure in heart are welcome there (see Isaiah 56).
- Recognize that God is simple in His decrees, and has asked us to love Him and our Neighbor.
- Band together with those of faith, and who are service and compassion oriented.
- Remember that God-fearing people, though few in number, are far more powerful than the masses of Lucifer worshipping secretive, self-serving individuals that run this world.
- Consider watching UNholy Alliance, by Rebekah Griffin
- Learn about LDS leadership Affiliation with secret organizations
Perfectly said. How interesting that the Gadiantons don’t mention themselves or what they are up to. Ahhhhh but the silence speaks volumes doesn’t it?
Indeed it does Janet. Good observation!
Great job! I full heartedly support and believe what has been stated in this essay, thank you for putting it out there for all to read! May we have ears to hear and eyes to see!
Just to think this journey we’re on started with little more than an impression, and now validation of corruption is coming almost daily. Your faith to follow your intuition is awesome Sue.
Spot on.
I readily see the temple handshake. Its been visible in images of church BRETHREN for numerous yrs now..
Not secret, not even sacred!!!
Exactly
Yes, even when shaking hands with those not of the faith…like Thomas S. Monson’s famous picture using it with George W. Bush. The look in his eyes also spoke volumes about the fact that he knew EXACTLY what he was doing. Likewise Hinckley shaking hands with Dick Cheney using it. Well said Eric, I fully agree on all counts! This seems to be a period of spiritual reawakening
Well said Curtis. It feels a little bit like growing pains, kind of bitter, sweet.
First of all, thank you for your posts Eric. Will you please expound on the first item about how/why “your number counts to them?”
Thank you.
Thank you Lisa. They need numbers to look good to maintain status quo. From what I understand the church census largely determines how funds are allocated. There is something fishy about them failing to report the census for the first time in forever at the last few conferences. This tells me if the true numbers were reported it could create some real stress for them. There has most definitely been a significant change in growth trends and they can’t justify temple building if the census is down. But there seems to be an agenda to show growth is business as usual, and members should not panic, nothing to see here sort of mindset. Some day these numbers will be reported and it will not look good for the church, I am sure of that. I would bet if the church membership saw the true numbers it would create a panic something like the stock market collapse in the 20’s, and many would leave just because so many are.
With membership trends going as they are, why do you suppose there is still a frantic push to build temples? What do you imagine they need so many temples for? It seems fishy to me.
And I should say a frantic push to get people to do “temple worship” and be in the temple. I wonder about mind control???
They are money laundering. I have heard of first witness accounts of contracts saying the budgets for things like carpet are inflated to numbers like $200 sq ft. Moldings $400 square ft. Ect.
Good job Eric!
I’ve noticed there is little study, if any, in our LDS manuals about Ezekiel 34, Jeremiah 23, Isaiah 28-30 which all cry out about the shepherds who have gone astray.
Not only are we being dummied down in what we are taught now in formal classes, but we are being told what to read – conference talks, conference talks, conference talks – and what to say in lessons…and we are not being taught about false shepherds/prophets, let alone the Gadianton robbers.
No talk of Gadianton robbers.
It’s a stealing of our thoughts. I’d call it brainwashing.
Good point. We have noticed the same thing. These scriptures are not being addressed in church. Relief Society is now spiritually painful for me to attend. I love these dear women in our branch, but they get all misty-eyed and choked up when they read the (same) conference talks (over and over again)–saying “how wonderful it is to have such a loving prophet to lead them”. I feel like I am in the twilight zone because the “prophet” they see and the “man” I see are two entirely different people. But once I seriously studied the Old Testament and Mormon 8, I simply cannot “un-see” it.
All is well in Zion. It must all be well. For the Lord commanded us to be alarmed when we would see secret combinations in our midst. As good and loyal LDS are not alarmed this can only mean secret combinations are not present.
Section 123 explains the saints have an imperative duty to collect and lay before the world the lies, deceptions and corruption and cruelty practiced upon the people. The scripture explains:
“For there are many yet on the earth … who are blinded by the subtle craftiness of men, whereby they lie in wait to deceive, and who are only kept from the truth because they know not where to find it—
Therefore, that we should waste and wear out our lives in bringing to light all the hidden things of darkness, wherein we know them; and they are truly manifest from heaven—
These should then be attended to with great earnestness.”
Apparently there are is no blindness, subtle craftiness and deception. Otherwise we would be actively engaged in bringing to light the works of darkness. Did not the First Presidency recently affirm that we are lead by “wise and thoughtful ” world leaders. There are only “good guys”. There are no works of darkness so there is nothing to bring to light.
What amazes me most about the “all is well” preaching of the church leadership is how obviously fake the act is. It isn’t working. We can see it is not working. We can see the world crumbling around us and we are learning everyday how corrupt and practiced in deception the institutions of our country have been. Why do LDS leaders persist in the charade that “All is well?” Who are they so afraid to offend?
Thanks for sharing.
I can’t say how much I love the actions you suggest at the end. “Recognize the Lord’s church as a condition of heart rather than an institution, and all who are pure in heart are welcome there (see Isaiah 56). Recognize that God is simple in His decrees, and has asked us to love Him and our Neighbor. Band together with those of faith, and who are service and compassion oriented.”
I’m still stuck in a hard place as far as membership in the church for complicated reasons. I wish I felt safe to go ahead with all the actions you recommended. Until the time comes when I can do that, I’m hoping to love Him and my neighbor and be a safe place for others.
Thank you for this thought provoking essay.
Thank you for this essay and for everyone’s comments, the comments resonate with my own and I am grateful to read them and know there are others who think like me.
Excellent comment. I so relate!
